Opportunities in energy

Almost every country in the world is interested in environmentally friendly design and energy efficiency as when it comes to saving money nothing beats reducing energy use and using renewables, and most countries, like most people, want to save money. The UK Energy Secretary Ed Davey recently said that even a 10 per cent reduction of energy use in 2030 will mean five million tonnes of carbon dioxide is saved and £4billion is cut from bills. Alongside this the aim is for renewable energy to deliver between 30 and 45 per cent of the UK's energy by 2030.

ElringKlinger signs deal to supply Mini engine parts

Redcar-based ElringKlinger has made an agreement to supply engine parts to BMW Mini, making it the only high volume producer of underbody heat shields in the UK. The agreement will commence towards the end of 2013, leading to a significant investment of 2.5 million Euros into an embossing line, automated press and specialist gluing equipment machine, creating at least a dozen new jobs at the plant and potentially producing up to two million units annually for clients including BMW, Lotus and Bentley.

Adhesives optimise yacht manufacturing process

Composite materials from Huntsman Advanced Materials have been used by Pauger Carbon Composites to construct an innovative 50 foot long twin-mast catamaran called the Fifty-Fifty. Pauger Carbon Composites, a Hungarian manufacturer of composite yachts and masts, designed and built the catamaran in time for this year's Blue Ribbon Regatta on Lake Balaton in Hungary. The design objectives were to achieve the best power-to-weight ratio possible in constructing a light weight vessel capable of achieving high speeds in long distance sailing.
