A wide range of springs off the shelf

Ondrives has a wide range of springs available to purchase off the shelf from its latest 936 page mechanical drive components catalogue, the company states. The selection ranges from compression, extension, torsion and die springs to cover a multitude of different application possibilities. The compression springs are stainless steel and sizes start from a tiny 1.20mm outside diameter with a free length of 2mm, up to 68mm outside diameter with a 585mm free length, so every size is catered for. There are also compression springs available in metre lengths for those applications that require it, and these are available in both stainless steel and music wire as standard.

A revolution in locking detent pin design

Specialty Fasteners and Components (SFC) has announced the introduction of the SLIC locking detent pin, claiming it as a revolutionary product. The SLIC pin has been developed and designed by US-based Pivot Point, which has been responsible for several cotter pin innovations over the years. The SLIC (or self locking implanted cotter) pin, as its name suggests, is both secure and self locking due to the use of an implanted plunger that functions as a cotter pin. The SLIC pin is used in the same manner as clevis pins and cotters, but has improved functionality. Its unique design is covered by US patent number 6,872,039 with European patents pending.

Racing team stick with Loctite

Oliver Turvey, with Team Loctite, clinched second place in the Formula BMW UK Championship at the Silverstone finale - a truly remarkable result for a combination that did not even join the series until one third of the way through the season. A wide variety of adhesive technologies can be found in the workshops and the pit stops of Team Loctite. For example, when it comes to reassembling gearboxes, a silicone sealant is used to ensure no oil escapes from the aluminium casing, and no contaminants get inside.

BigHead ramps up production

Gripping results in heat test

An arduous programme of high temperature and vibration testing has proved that the Cross Spiralock wire thread insert can withstand repeated exposure to these conditions with virtually no deterioration in its free running and thread locking performance. By comparison, a conventional prevailing torque insert failed completely after the very first heating and vibrating test cycle.

Adhesive sealant combines three technologies in one

New hot melt technology from Dow Corning utilises hot melt technology by combining the instant green strength of a pressure sensitive adhesive (psa) with the high performance of a crosslinked silicone sealant. This results in improved productivity, increased production speed and reduced costs. Dow Corning HM-2510 was developed to have a lower viscosity than Dow Corning HM-2500 assembly sealant which allows it to flow into deeper section and achieve longer working time.
