UCB life scientists use robots to test cells by the billion

An automated primary antibody screening workcell for early stage development of potential new treatments for central nervous system and immunology disorders has been designed and built for UCB by Farnborough-based Peak Analysis and Automation (PAA) Ltd. Built around a Mitsubishi Electric robot, the workcell speeds up the process of antibody discovery by allowing the screening of billions of antibody producing B cells.

Harvesting robots could make green asparagus cheaper

Why is asparagus one of the most expensive vegetables in Europe? Because harvesters have to painstakingly pierce each stalk individually. A robot could change this, and engineers at the Bremen Centre for Mechatronics (BCM) are developing one. It works with harvesting tools, which run on precision rails from HepcoMotion – a specialist in linear guidance systems.

MiniTec"s aluminium profile system used as innovative camera rig

When a leading digital photography company needed a structure on which to mount camera’s to shoot subject matter whereby multiples images are captured and scanned by multiple camera shots/angles, it turned to Minitec. It had proved to be very impractical and cumbersome to construct a jig out of scaffolding. Minitec, with the help of the client came up with a solution which is far more than just a customised multiple camera tripod.
