The recognition reflects WEG's investment in technologies that support renewable energy integration and grid resilience.

The ceremony took place on 22 June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the Energy Summit, one of the world's leading events dedicated to energy, innovation and sustainability. The event is held in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and brings together global industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to discuss the future of energy.

The Energy Summit Awards recognise companies, projects and initiatives that make a significant contribution to transforming the energy sector, evaluating criteria such as innovation, impact, scalability and relevance within the global energy ecosystem. The Global Award is a special recognition granted to organisations whose performance, impact, disruptive capabilities and global visibility set a benchmark for excellence in the energy industry.

The Global Award is a special distinction granted by the Energy Summit Council to companies or initiatives of global-class standards whose performance, impact, disruptive capabilities and visibility represent the highest benchmark in the global energy sector.

"This award reflects WEG's long-term commitment to innovation and to developing technologies that enable a more reliable, efficient and sustainable energy future, said Sebastio Lauro Nau, manager of the technological innovation management department at WEG. "As energy systems evolve and renewable generation expands, technologies that strengthen grid resilience and flexibility become increasingly important, and we are proud to contribute to this transformation on a global scale,"

The recognition comes at a time when WEG continues to expand its portfolio of technologies supporting the global energy transition. Among these, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have become a key component in modern power systems, complementing renewable energy sources and enhancing grid stability.

As the share of solar and wind generation grows worldwide, BESS play a critical role in balancing supply and demand, storing energy during periods of lower consumption and releasing it when needed. This improves system reliability, reduces the risk of outages and increases the flexibility required to integrate intermittent renewable resources.

WEG has been actively investing in these strategic solutions to meet growing global demand. The company has announced an investment plan of approximately BRL 1.1 billion through to 2028, focused on expanding its product portfolio and increasing WEG Energia's production capacity.

The programme includes the construction of a new manufacturing facility, representing an investment of BRL 900 million, as well as the expansion of existing operations in Jaragu do Sul with an additional BRL 160 million. The new site will be dedicated to the production of large-scale equipment in Brazil, including synchronous condensers of up to 330 MVAr, turbogenerators of up to 200 MVA and high-speed induction motors.

Together, these initiatives reinforce WEG's ability to deliver scalable, technically robust and future-ready solutions that support the decarbonisation and resilience of energy systems worldwide, further strengthening its position as a leading player in the global energy transition.
