With easy access to CAD software, 3D printing, laser wire cutting and other prototyping and manufacturing technologies, a successful manufacturing business is now within the reach of just about anyone. A BBC report has highlighted the fact that, today, anyone with a good idea can start up a manufacturing business on their own with very little investment.
>The report pointed to the number of today's major companies that started out life as an operation in a garage or a shed. And it's never been easier for individuals to begin operations in the same way, making the products they believe in. Individuals are proving that they are more than equal to the corporate world, says the report, and are challenging the traditional methods of manufacturing.
>Some believe that this home-grown-business model will bring about a new industrial revolution, with a democratising of design as people set their own micro factories to design and build their own innovative products.
