Shims provide formed parts for helicopter transmissions
German supplier Georg Martin is one of the leading manufacturers of peelable and solid shims for the European aviation industry. In an assessment by customer Airbus, the company achieved an Industrial Process Control Assessment (IPCA) audit result of 95%. Martin is now presenting their first formed sheet metal parts for the construction of helicopter transmissions.
>Laminated PET shims from Martin are ideally suited for tolerance compensation where weight is a factor (Left image). They reduce assembly time considerably as, unlike liquid shims, they do not have to harden. In addition to this, Martin collaborates with their customers to develop solutions which keep opening up new areas of application in the field of gap management. The groundbreaking idea here is Martin's M-Tech shim concept which demonstrates the multiple benefits of shims to the customer.
>Martin has been successfully developing and producing products for the automotive industry for half a century. Now the German supplier is presenting formed parts for the aviation industry for the first time - to be more precise, a deep-drawn part made of rustless sheet steel for a helicopter transmission (Above right). As Martin can also realise complete precision sub-assemblies, the company is of interest as a supplier to many other customers in the aviation and aerospace industry.
>Martin has been supplying peelable shims to the aviation industry ever since the development of the Airbus A310. The company's aerospace competence was confirmed in 2009 by EN 9100 certification and in 2012, Martin achieved an outstanding result with a rating of 95 percent in the IPCA audit conducted by Airbus.
