Self-tapping plastic inserts

New to the Spirol range is the self-tapping range for use with plastics. They are designed for use in most plastics, including thermosets, providing a high and consistent pull-out strength. Installation of the inserts is simple using a drill press and fitted with a non-pitched tapping head or with a Spirol self-tapping screw driver. The symmetrical design of each insert simplifies orientation during installation, whilst a lead-in pilot ensures straight installation.

Spirol offers both thread forming (Series 10) and thread cutting (Series 13) inserts for plastic. Thread forming inserts are well suited for ductile materials and the coarse external thread pitch maximises tensile strength and prevents hole tearing. For brittle materials, thread cutting inserts feature three cutting facets which are spaced equally for a balanced cutting action.

Both Series 10 and Series 13 inserts have an external buttress thread which also benefits in terms of reduced radial stress due to material displacement, reduced radial forces due to improved vectoring, and lower installation torque.
