PTV terminals provide a new approach to panel wiring

Phoenix Contact’s new PTV terminals offer a new way to wire your panel. If you’re using the screw connection method in your terminals, you will of course value the benefit of the conductor/wire entering the terminal from the side. If you are a push in connection method terminal user, you will know the speed of termination and resilience to vibration benefits that ‘push in’ delivers. Now you can enjoy all of the benefits of both

The PTV does not replace Phoenix Contact’s standard PT range of push in terminals; instead, PTV is an additional part of Phoenix Contact’s Clipline series of DIN rail terminals. And, as part of the Clipline series, they utilise the same universal accessories (jumper bars, test adapters, etc).

One area where Phoenix Contact says PTV excels in is that of ‘retrofit’ activity. Refitting or modernising a cabinet initially costs time and money. By using PTV, you can be sure that your time and money gives real benefits over and above just replacing like for like (the one in, one out approach) – ie taking an old screw terminal out and replacing it with a fresh terminal of the same part number.

Replacing the terminals and conductors in a busy cabinet, junction box or machine could prove a serious undertaking. Therefore, replacing your traditional screw terminals with a more modern spring-based push in terminal might be an initially attractive proposition. It then it dawns on you that the benefits of speed of installation, vibration proofing, etc, that come with fitting a push in PT terminal may be negated by the need to replace each individual conductor/wire to achieve the extra wire length (say 40mm for argument’s sake) to be able ‘loop’ over into the top of the terminal. You would need to do this as PT push in terminals are top entry, whereas screw terminals are side entry. This could be very costly both in time and cash.

Phoenix Contact has developed the PTV terminal to incorporate the best features of each of the above terminals, and ensure that to move to a push-in (spring) terminal will not automatically mean that you need to replace every conductor that goes into a terminal.

In addition to the PTV terminals, Phoenix Contact now also offers side entry versions of its PTFIX distribution blocks. The side entry blocks are termed PTVFIX (as with the terminals, the ‘V’ denotes side entry). The distribution blocks come in an extensive number of ways, cross sections and colours and, like the PTV terminals, come with the benefits of speedy push in connection (vibration proof), ease of testing, space saving and full range of colours. Also, the added benefits of din rail mounting, screw flange mounting or adhesive backed.
