To meet the increasing demand for frequency inverters, drive specialist NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is expanding the production capacities at its Aurich site, and the system provider has now held the topping-out ceremony for the new building.
Whether control cabinet solution or decentralised drive technology, every NORD frequency inverter is produced in the plant in Aurich - regardless of whether it is used in Europe, China or the USA. Following the purchase of the 18,000 m2 adjacent site, a modern two-story building with direct connection to the existing buildings is being built next to the existing production plant.
The project creates an additional base area of 5,000 m2, resulting in 8,600 m2 for production and logistics areas as well as 1,400 m2 for communal and training spaces.
The foundation is complete
After submitting the building application in March 2024, earthworks started in April. Approximately 13,000 m3 of topsoil was removed, fill sand was brought in and the existing paving was crushed and reused on site.
The foundation work began in September; within twelve weeks, 101 sleeve foundations and a 100 m long strip foundation were created. Completion took place in December, just in time for the holidays.
In October of the same year, a new nitrogen tank was also installed - its volume exceeds that of the existing tank by more than 60% and ensures an oxygen-free protective atmosphere during automatic soldering of the modules.
Topping-out ceremony
Since May of this year, the carcass work has been making rapid and significant progress: A large mobile crane and several lorries delivered the prefabricated concrete parts in cycles; all posts and external walls were installed in three construction phases. Posts with spans of 7.5 by 8 metres on the ground floor and 7.5 by 15 metres on the upper floor made it clear after just a few weeks what dimensions the future production areas would have.
The topping-out ceremony marks another milestone on the road to completion. "With the expansion, we are meeting the high demand in the field of frequency inverters and are creating future-proof production conditions", concludes Jorg Niermann, Head of Marketing at NORD. "This ensures that we can continue to offer short delivery times and high quality in addition to customised products 'made in Aurich'."
