New export contract win for CME

New export contract win for CME

Packaging and Automation specialist CME has won an export order to supply a robotic pre-roll packaging system into the cannabis sector in Canada.

This flexible stand-alone system will use two SCARA robots to pick up pre-rolled cannabis joints, which are presented in a random fashion on a vibratory feeding system. The products are then transferred and placed in a set configuration and orientation within a tray.

This compact and cost-effective system can process up to 60 pre-rolls per minute with the vision system being used for product identification, position, and orientation, before the SCARA robot selects the product and transfers it to the packaging. Full sensor monitoring is also included for product quality and material supply. The system is designed to be quickly adjusted to operate across five different packaging formats and product quantities.

Developed using a combination of different off the shelf technologies, the system provides both consistency in the way product is handled, predictable productivity levels, and a minimum of operator intervention. As a small Island of automation this system will operate on its own, but over time will be linked to other processes both downstream and upstream as part of a cohesive automation strategy.

Based in Chard, Somerset, CME Limited offers both bespoke, and a growing range of standard packaging and automation solutions, for the pharmaceutical, legal cannabis, tobacco, food and consumer goods sectors around the world.
