An Italian company is using Garlock GYLON Style 3504 seals for modern microwave measuring equipment, solving previous leakage problems. The company, which specialises in advanced microwave instrumentation for analytical and organic chemistry laboratories, developed the first all-in-one tissue processor. This features a patented microwave hybrid processing technology.
Normally, the temperature in such equipment is raised with electrical resistance. However, this manufacturer uses microwaves to obtain a more precise temperature curve and a faster process (biopsy). Thus, the analysis time is reduced from 10 to 2 hours. Unfortunately, however, there have been recurring leakage problems. The requirements defined for the search for a new sealing solution included a material that should be microwave-transparent, chemically resistant to process acids and sufficiently elastic.
Today, GYLON Style 3504 is used in a customised seal, according to the customer’s specifications. This material seals the fabric processors perfectly and is now also used for all other seals in this equipment.
