A close cooperation between Schaeffler Technologies and Kluber Lubrication has resulted in coordinated product concepts of the next generation. The new wheelset bearing grease Klubersynth BHE 46-403 is certified according to the current specifications of the rail industry.
Lubricants have an immense influence on the service lives, reliability and efficiency of rail transport components. At InnoTrans 2024, Kluber Lubrication will be placing a special focus on the interface between rail and vehicle - the wheelset shaft and the lubrication of the wheel bearings installed in it.
"Kluber Lubrication has been a reliable partner of the rail industry for many years," said Julius Fuchs, Head of Global Industry Team Rail. "Our tried-and-tested specialty lubricants for rail transport include our gear oils, switch lubricants and the new wheel bearing grease. The exchange between operators and our experts is of crucial importance for the continuous development of specialty lubricants for specific applications. InnoTrans offers us an ideal forum for this."
An important way to optimise the efficiency of a lubricant is to adapt the base oil to the respective application. For example, the requirements and operating conditions under which a high-speed passenger train must function reliably are different from those of a heavily loaded freight train. Customised base oil technologies for the specific application ensure that the lubricity is maintained over a wide temperature range and at variable speeds and vibrations.
In addition to efficiency, optimised ageing behaviour and increased safety also play a decisive role in the development of next-generation lubricants, especially in highly stressed, safety-relevant areas. This is achieved through improved wear behaviour, excellent shear stability and high load-carrying capacity.
