The FLT-SPP and VAL-SPP lightning current and surge protective devices from Phoenix Contact have been tested by an independent body in accordance with the requirements of the new IEC 61643 standard. The units already meet the more stringent requirements and provide designers, system manufactures, and operators with a high degree of reliability, availability, and future-proofing.
Today, electrical systems must perform better than ever before. Increasing electrification, renewable energies, battery storage systems, charging infrastructure, and networked industrial systems are placing greater demands on availability and safety. At the same time, the new IEC 61643 standard significantly tightens the requirements on lightning current and surge protective devices. This standard places particular emphasis on the protection of people and equipment, as well as on safe operation even under fault conditions.
With the new Flashtrab SPP combined lightning current and surge arresters (type 1+2+3) and the Valvetrab SPP surge protective devices (type 2), users are already able to meet these requirements. The devices have been tested by an independent testing laboratory in accordance with the requirements of the new IEC 61643 standard. The results demonstrate that they not only meet the more stringent requirements, but also exceed them in key safety areas.
With the Safe Protection Plus concept, operators benefit from an exceptionally high level of protection and system availability, as well as maximum investment security. Increased air clearances and creepage distances, enhanced insulation, and safe behaviour in the event of overloads and short-circuits help minimise risks and increase operational safety in the long term. The FLT-SPP and VAL-SPP devices thus provide a future-proof solution for modern power supply systems.
