At the Emmerich river port, KABELSCHLEPP Metool has overhauled the cable guiding on a container crane owned by Contargo Rhein-Waal-Lippe. A pre-configured TOTALTRAX solution was used, which the experts for cable carrier systems supplied as a turnkey system and commissioned within a very short period of time.

As part of a terminal expansion at the Emmerich river port, Contargo is planning to replace one of its two container cranes in 2025. To ensure smooth operations during this period, the company decided to first have the remaining crane overhauled.
Having already delivered a convincing performance with its pre-configured complete cable carrier systems (TOTALTRAX) at other Contargo sites in the past, KABELSCHLEPP Metool received the order for the crane retrofit in August 2024. The brief was for maximum operational safety for the years to come. The challenge lay in replacing the two cable carriers during ongoing operation within the shortest time possible.
The cable carrier systems are based on the MC1300 series from KABELSCHLEPP Metool in a gliding opposite arrangement with floating drivers. With a chain length of two times 49 m, a travel length of 80 m with a maximum additional load of 10 kg per meter of cable carrier was implemented.
The M series cable carriers are from the flexible Vario Line from KABELSCHLEPP Metool. They are multi-variable cable carriers with various stay variants. Contargo uses type RM frame stays. Each stay is attached with four screws and is easy and quick to open on both sides. With a maximum travel speed of 5 m/s and an acceleration of 25 m/s2, the MC1300 meets all demands of the container crane. A closed, hinged cover structure provides the requested easy maintenance and good protection against the elements.
Installation and commissioning in less than 7 days
The cable carriers were delivered on a special two-chamber transport drum as a turnkey product with the cable package already in place, which enabled rapid installation on site. Installation and commissioning were completed in just under seven days. "As TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP use their own service engineers, we are able to work with such narrow time windows," explains Jens Tielmann, Technical Field Service at TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP. "Our team has the benefit of decades of experience and can use this to always make the right decisions for the situation and for the customer."
This also convinced Michael Mies, Managing Director at Contargo Rhein-Waal-Lippe: "TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP have once again shown that they cannot only deliver innovative technology, but also have an accurate understanding of our requirements. The new system has been running reliably and without problems since its commissioning in October 2024, and we are perfectly set up for the upcoming replacement of our second crane system."
