Fuji Electric launches VFD series with a host of new functions

With the flexibility and functionality to support the broadest range of applications on all types of mechanical equipment, Fuji Electric says its new FRENIC-MEGA-G2 drive takes core capabilities, responsiveness, environmental awareness, and easy maintenance to the next level.

New features in the G2 Series include an orientation function, PID auto tune, load limiter and a new multi-function keypad, improving diagnostic functions and simplifying programming. There is also Bluetooth for remote access, SD card for traceback data, clock function (allowing time data to be logged with the alarm history), and USB port for direct connection to a PC.

Also useful function are traceback and alarm history, with the G2 acquiring and saving waveform data immediately before an alarm occurs. It can store information on the past four occurrences, such as output voltage and frequency at the time of an alarm.

In addition to these new features, the G2 also offers a number of enhancements over the G1 Series. Customisable logic (from 10 to 260 steps) enables simple configuration of parameters including relays, timer etc, removing the need for a PLC in dedicated VFD control applications or small systems. And there are enhanced life expectancy diagnostics and maintenance functions: monitoring the VFD via the PC loader software or keypad reduces production equipment maintenance time and downtime.

With the same mounting dimensions as the G1, plus simple parameter migration, Fuji says the all new FRENIC-MEGA-G2 is a drive that is fully backward compatible yet designed for the future, with state-of-the-art IoT connectivity and many application-specific features. The company says typical applications will include machine tools, press machines, winding and coiling machines, hoists and cranes, and crushing machines.
