Five Accu-sponsored Formula Student teams take on tough competition
Five university motorsport teams sponsored by precision component distributor Accu competed at Formula Student Germany (FSG) 2026, an international design competition in student motorsport, with one of the sponsored teams, AMZ Racing Team from ETH Zurich, claiming outright victory against 80 other teams from across Europe.
AMZ Racing Team secured the overall FSG 2026 title with 931 of a possible 1,000 points, which included a perfect 250 score in the 22 km Endurance event and second-place finishes across five separate disciplines.
Accu also supported teams including TalTech University in Tallinn, as well as from the Universities of Bath, Southampton and Oxford Brookes. Accu supplied components to all five teams ahead of the competition, worth up to 1,500 per team, which included titanium and zinc-plated screws in M3-M6 thread sizes. Teams consistently specified socket drives across varying lengths to minimise the range of tools needed during build and repairs, which introduced cost and efficiency benefits under competition time pressure.

Team Bath Racing Electric: reliability under pressure
The University of Bath's 'Team Bath Racing Electric' (TBRe) had faced a challenge when an intermittent battery communications fault surfaced and rather than risk the car's reliability, the team made the difficult decision to remove an entire battery module. This meant they arrived at Formula Student Germany with an entirely new in-hub powertrain and battery system.
That proved to be the right decision as TBRe went on to complete all 18 laps of the full 22 km Endurance event in extreme heat. The team also secured third place in the MathWorks Modelling and Simulation Award, securing TBRe's first-ever FSG trophy and the highest overall score of any British team at the competition!

Formula Student Germany has been an exclusively electric competition since 2024 and AMZ's win at Hockenheimring puts them at the top of the world's toughest student engineering competitions.
As well as its involvement in sponsoring Formula Student competitions, Accu runs STEM activities through schools to encourage young people to gain more experience in roles in engineering. Accu also supports a number of student robotics clubs to design their own robots and compete against its in-house engineers.
