Lesjöfors has updated its industrial spring catalogue, which features many new references, catapulting the total to well over 10,000. The catalogue is designed to guide customers into the offering available from the company, and comprises standard stock references featuring a broad range of styles and dimensions.

Gas springs and oil dampers

Eckold reports that it keeps a wide range of standard stroke compression springs in stock which are valved so that the force can be adjusted when mounting on the application if necessary. Various different types of screw-on end fittings and mounting brackets are also available off the shelf. And the latest innovation in the oil damping programme is an adjustable version, which makes life easier if the damping force is uncertain.

CAD solves cabling challenge for next generation robot

The human-symbiotic robot TWENDY-ONE has been researched and developed by Sugano Laboratory (headed by Professor Shigeki Sugano of Waseda University) and private-sector businesses. Professor Sugano is well known for his research in the area of arm and finger manipulations. In 1999, his team developed WENDY (Waseda ENgineering Designed sYmbiont) – a human-symbiotic robot that had dexterous hands with human-like fingertips and succeeded in breaking an egg flawlessly for the first time in the world. Professor Sugano’s team made full use of Pro/ENGINEER to develop TWENDY-ONE, a prototype of the new generation human-symbiotic robot based on the WENDY technology for supporting daily human activities.

Autodesk completes iLogic acquisition

Autodesk has completed the acquisition of iLogic software and related technology from Canada-based Logimetrix. The acquisition supports Autodesk’s commitment to providing a comprehensive digital prototyping solution to manufacturers of all sizes, giving them the ability to design, visualise and simulate their products before they are built, reducing the reliance on constructing multiple physical prototypes.

Five-axis inspection now supported

Version 5 of Delcam’s PowerINSPECT software includes support for five-axis scanning with Renishaw’s REVO probe. This new release of the hardware-independent inspection software also features the ability to use multiple alignments within parts or assemblies, additional GD&T features, more flexible best-fit algorithms, improved CMM connectivity and more versatile report generation.

Siemens PLM Software has announced that CAM Express software with synchronous technology is now shipping. CAM Express incorporates Siemens PLM Software’s new breakthrough history-free, feature-based design technology. The new version 6.0.1 includes additional model editing tools leveraging synchronous technology for more effective set up in preparation for NC programming.

The 2012 challenge to help disabled and older people

The Olympic Games in London in 2012 will provide a supreme challenge for more than just the athletes competing in them. They will also push to the limits the capacities of the logistical and communications infrastructures of the UK's capital city, for the athletes and for the hundreds of thousands of visitors, including disabled and older people.
