New technology for greater fan airflow

Filter fans are used to provide an optimum climate in enclosures and cabinets that contain electrical and/or electronic components. The interior temperature of an enclosure can be reduced by channelling cooler filtered outside air into the enclosure, thus expelling heated internal air. The resulting airflow prevents formation of localised hot pockets in installations and protects electronic components from overheating.

When Siemens began to investigate composite materials for nacelles used on its new 6MW offshore wind turbines, one of the key things it looked at was a composite maintenance hatch designed to replace a steel panel, and the traditional bolt fixings were used to lock and unlock it. This required two persons to perform the operation – one inside and one outside the nacelle. Clearly ease of access and its related safely were problems to be solved, in addition to reducing maintenance costs.

Mitsubishi Electric’s interactive robotic installation known as ‘Threebots’ has received several coveted awards since its installation at the new German branch office in Ratingen. They include the ‘Cutting Edge Award’ presented by Adobe, and ‘FWA’ which was awarded by a jury of more than 200 experts in recognition of projects that use cutting-edge technology to communicate knowledge. In addition, the entire exhibition ‘The World of Mitsubishi Electric’, of which ‘Threebots’ is a part, has been nominated for a ‘German Design Award’.

At Southern 2016, Phoenix Contact showcased its robust I/O system, Axioline F, which is suitable for applications in the energy sector. With the new bus coupler and the new I/O modules, the I/O system can be used for IEC 61850, says Phoenix.
