OKW has extended its Railtec C DIN rail enclosures range with a new CV version that features four integrated terminal blocks. New Railtec CV can be specified for a wide range of applications including automation, building technology, safety systems and HVAC – notably time controllers, sensors, relays, signal distributors and lighting controls. It can be snapped quickly and easily on to TH35 DIN rails or mounted directly to the wall. PCBs slide in on integrated vertical guide rails.

Coupling wins design award

Punk Couplings’s Gim-Ball coupling has won the ‘Best New Product (Mechanical) of the Year – Highly Commended Category’ in the British Engineering Excellence Awards 2016. The Punk Gim-Ball design utilises three nested rings with mating spherical surfaces to reinterpret the traditional Cardan joint with axles transmitting the torque. It provides a light-weight, compact and robust torque coupling that can accommodate angular misalignment up to ±15°.

Igus gives HudRail a helping hand in its railway challenge

A team of undergraduate mechanical and electrical engineers from the University of Huddersfield competed in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Railway Challenge at the Stapleford Miniature Railway, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Up against teams of students, apprentices and graduates from other UK universities and industry, the HudRail team had to design and build a miniature (10.25in gauge) railway locomotive. The train then had to compete in a number of track-based and presentation challenges including: energy storage; traction; ride comfort; noise; maintainability; and energy efficiency.

Bespoke test rig installation completed

Hydrotechnik UK has provided two bespoke test rigs complete with a customised testing area for a railway components repair company. The rigs enable the company to carry out efficiency tests on cylinders ensuring they meet the standards to be assembled onto drive systems fitted onto trains. Hydrotechnik’s engineers have been able to design, custom build and commission the right testing solution.
