Improving efficiency by developing pumps for higher temperature systems

Improving efficiency by developing pumps for higher temperature systems

The technology to exploit renewable energy sources is continuing to advance, improving efficiency and reducing costs. In concentrated solar power plants with central tower and molten salt, the sun’s energy is used to raise the temperature of molten salts, which are pumped to a steam generator that powers a turbine. The efficiency of this process can be improved if the working temperature is increased and this has led to a large-scale project to develop the corresponding pump technology.

Accuracy and rigidity of actuators are crucial for metal machining

Accuracy and rigidity of actuators are crucial for metal machining

When assembling prefabricated metal components and frames, exacting accuracy is consistently needed to ensure a productive work rate and to avoid rejects. To achieve this, drills, routers and cutters have to provide a controlled action that ensures precision and avoids deflection during high speed operation. This relies on the rigidity and precision provided by the actuators, and a multi-axis linear system can help OEMs design more productive, high performance machines.

Mechanical fibre optic switches from Laser Components

Mechanical fibre optic switches from Laser Components

Fibre optic switches based on mechanical technology such as micro-mechanical that self-aligns a fibre directly to another fibre offer many application advantages. For the majority of applications there are many performance benefits over other fibre optic switch technologies. For example, micro-mechanical versions with a small gap between fibres that can be filled with index-matching liquid making them well suited for LiDAR and reflective sensor monitoring systems.
