Robot-assisted system enables safe handling of nuclear waste

Robot-assisted system enables safe handling of nuclear waste

Automation is increasingly required to handle nuclear waste, but the nuclear industry is reluctant of fully autonomous robotic control methods for safety reasons, and remote-controlled industrial robots are preferred in hazardous environments. However, such complex tasks as remote-controlled gripping or cutting of unknown objects with the help of joysticks and video surveillance cameras are difficult to control and sometimes even impossible.

IP65 to IP69K stainless steel hygiene locks from FDB Online

IP65 to IP69K stainless steel hygiene locks from FDB Online

Designed especially for use in hygiene defined areas, these classically designed L and T handles in AISI 316L with or without cylinder key locking mechanism are now available ex-stock from the FDB Panel Fittings Online store. They are designed for use in hygiene areas of food, pharmaceutical, medical, laboratory and related areas, where it is important to manage and minimise the accumulation of biological material – by design, by manufacturing quality and by pressure washdown. They are said to be suited to stainless steel or plastic enclosures/cabinets for machine controls or power management and are vibration resistant for vehicle or machinery applications.

Shared programming environment brings robot and CNC technologies together

The last five decades have seen tremendous advances both in robotics and in CNC machining centre technology. In recent years manufacturers have begun reaping the benefits of bringing these two technologies together and robot tending of CNC machines is already helping to improve productivity for many businesses. However, there is more to come from these two important technologies thanks to the development of a single programming environment for both.

Igus e-skin flat energy chain with three layers receives cleanroom Class 1 approval

Igus e-skin flat energy chain with three layers receives cleanroom Class 1 approval

In clean room environments such as laboratories, energy chains required to manage cables and hoses safely must be particle-free. Igus has developed the e-skin flat, an economical alternative to ribbon cables due to its modular design. Proof that the energy supply is particle-free according to ISO Class 1, not only as a single layer but also as a triple-layer ready-to-connect energy chain, was provided by the Fraunhofer cleanroom test.

Top quality corrosion resistant chains ensure it is always sunny

Top quality corrosion resistant chains ensure it is always sunny

A manufacturer of rotating solar panels that track the sun as it travels across the sky has switched from an underperforming drive chain to a long life, corrosion resistant chain made by Tsubaki. This has reduced the need for expensive in-field maintenance and frequent replacement, thus shortening the payback time of every installation.
