Adhesives assure hydraulic systems

Adhesives assure hydraulic systems" reliability for 25 years

A gigantic Berg Propulsion propeller with a diameter of more than nine metres dwarfs the men standing next to it and at every stage of its manufacture, Loctite engineering adhesives from Henkel have an important part to play. Loctite threadlockers and thread sealants secure assemblies in the hydraulic systems in the propeller hub. The systems have to be pressure resistant and threaded assemblies immune from vibration loads.  Indeed, a minimum of 25 years of reliable service is the expected norm.

Springs for devices needing a light touch

Springs for devices needing a light touch

The Lee Spring engineering team is aware there are many devices and equipment mechanisms that require a light touch – delicacy rather than power is the main requirement – coupled of course to consistent reliability and longevity in service with pressures in the single digit psi range.

Spring calculator now covers non-standard springs

ack in August 2019 the Institute of Spring Technology (IST) released the completely re-written Spring Calculator Professional (SCP). Since the launch of SCP Version 2 the software team has been working hard to add all the spring types you know and love from the original version. And now, the biggest addition yet, the calculator includes in the non-standard spring type.

Unusual applications for wave springs

Unusual applications for wave springs

It may come as a surprise that top artists such as Noel Gallagher, Stevie Wonder and Madonna have performed on stage and in the studio with wave springs. When examining potential uses for wave springs, aerospace, automotive and medical applications are usually the first that come to mind – not live music. Here Justin Lawrence, applications engineer at TFC, explores three of the more unusual applications for wave springs.

Kistler launches the world's largest piezoelectric 3-component force sensor

Kistler launches the world's largest piezoelectric 3-component force sensor

With a measuring range of up to 450kN in the Z axis and 100kN in the X and Y axes, Kistler says its Type 9397C 3-component force sensor offers a unique measuring capacity. This, said to be the largest sensor of its type in the world, is the ideal choice for large-scale measurement tasks such as capturing impact forces in crash tests. The Swiss pioneer of piezoelectric measurement technology specialises in ready-to-use custom solutions that can also cope with extremely high measurement ranges.

New mobile app from SKF simplifies bearing mounting

New mobile app from SKF simplifies bearing mounting

SKF has developed a new mobile app that simplifies the task of mounting and replacing bearings. SKF Bearing Assist app, developed together with customers, provides detailed mounting instructions for a comprehensive range of SKF bearings. It is suitable for use by all engineering and maintenance teams and will minimise the problems of incorrect mounting, reducing installation time and cost, and helping to extend the operating life of bearings. Bearing Assist also allows engineers to record the work they have carried out, which can improve the way that bearing knowledge is shared across an organisation.

Cost-effective control for oxygen generation

Cost-effective control for oxygen generation

The XTP501 oxygen analyzer from Michell Instruments is a cost-effective quality-control analyzer for oxygen generators. The new analyzer is small, lightweight and uses the same thermo-paramagnetic sensor as Michell’s premium XTP601 oxygen analyzer range. Suitable for installation in safe areas, the XTP501 provides highly stable and accurate measurements of oxygen from 500 ppm O2 up to 100% O2. The case’s IP55 rating ensures the XTP501 analyzers are robust enough to perform reliably in tough industrial conditions, such as industrial oxygen generation. The new instrument is compact and easy to install, with an intuitive HMI.
