How heating technology is helping to green industries

Tighter regulations, mounting public concern and shifts in the economy have all put pressure on industries to explore green technologies. But after decades of pursuing the low-hanging fruit, many industries are facing tough engineering problems. However, making industry greener need not be an arduous, futuristic or excessively expensive task. Here, Dennis Long, strategic marketing director for energy processes business unit at industrial technology manufacturer Watlow, examines three areas where heating technology can support greener processes.

Fluke debuts fixed acoustic imager for manufacturing environments

Fluke debuts fixed acoustic imager for manufacturing environments

Fluke Process Instruments has released its first fixed acoustic imaging solution. The SV600 fixed acoustic imager enables users to detect, locate and visualise air and gas leaks or changes in sound signatures across their process and equipment in real-time before they become costly problems. By using an array of sophisticated sound sensors and powerful SoundMap technology, the SV600 translates the sounds that it hears into a visual representation so users can quickly locate and quantify problem areas.

What is condition monitoring and why do I need it?

What is condition monitoring and why do I need it?

Condition monitoring uses sensors to monitor equipment and give an early warning of failure. This dramatically reduces costs by allowing planned maintenance instead of catastrophic failure and production loss. But often vibration and temperature monitoring is seen as too expensive or too complex for small to medium businesses.

Brushed DC motors for higher temperatures

Brushed DC motors for higher temperatures

Motors capable of operating at high ambient temperatures are nothing new to Maxon. The HD (Heavy Duty) brushless DC motor range, developed to operate in ambient temperatures up to 200⁰C, has been on the market for over a decade. Until now, these temperatures were exclusively the domain of brushless motors; but now Maxon has changed that with the new HT (High Temperature) brushed DC motor.

TSN is set to become a must in the industry, according to Moxa

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is acknowledged to represent the future of industrial Ethernet, as it sets the foundation for data-driven interconnected, smart factories. More than a simple, product-level solution, the technology offers a systemic solution to support determinism, convergence and process transparency. These ground-breaking features are the reason why TSN adoption has already occurred with leading automation vendors.
