Casting a logo within a logo

The outstanding properties of rigid polyurethane, of fluidity at moulding, strength when set and variety of finishes, are proving invaluable in enclosures for scientific, medical and laboratory instrumentation. Add to these parameters the economic production of small quantities, even prototypes and one offs, and the material presents a very attractive package to markets where ergonomics and style are important but modest quantities are the norm.

Triton Technology, working through its design specialist company, employed Norse Precision Castings for the enclosure of its identiPol QA which assesses the quality of thermoplastic materials. The product is based on a wider range of analysing apparatus and gives injection moulding companies the ability to rapidly assess the quality of polymers and plastics batch to batch without the services of a skilled material scientist.

The rigid polyurethane is cold poured, presenting a high degree of precision, critical throughout. The quality of detail in the incorporated Triton logo is exceptional, the fluidity of the material enabling the Triton lizard to be cut into one edge the recessed 'O'. Rigid polyurethane also maintains a low tolerance on warp and overall fit, allowing the parts to fit together neatly without post moulding machining. The property of preserving the characteristics of embedded components is illustrated in the smaller part which has brass threaded inserts for ease of assembly.
