A new line of Southco captive screws designed specifically for electronic heat sink applications provides a consistent, high-load mechanical fastening solution that maximises thermal conductivity regardless of chip thermal expansion, shock, and vibration.
The physical design of the new Southco 5T Heat Sink Series Captive Screws provides thermal and mechanical engineers involved in printed circuit board applications with several distinct advantages beyond the capabilities of previous heat sink fastening methods. The design provides a consistent set preload - up to a maximum of 22 N per screw - to maximise surface contact and thermal conductivity throughout the range of chip expansion. This can actually allow for a smaller heat sink, conserving space and costs. Each screw features a positive stop to set the preload to help prevent the possibility of board damage.
