Bostik removes toluene from adhesives range

Bostik reports that it is set to make its entire range of adhesives toluene-free. The company's stance means its products will be completely toluene-free well in advance of expected EU legislation. Although a definite date is not yet available, it is predicted that new legislation limiting the use of toluene in manufacturing will be implemented towards the end of 2006. However, an effective ban on toluene products used by the general public is likely to come into force even earlier.

Bostik's proactive response to the legislation reflects the company's position and the responsible attitude that Bostik, as a registered ISO 14001 company, adopts regarding environmental policy. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs conducted a consultation exercise throughout 2004 to assess industry response to the proposed legislation on toluene.

Bostik's industrial products will be toluene-free well before the end of 2006.
