Asco Numatics celebrates 50 years of success in the UK
In 1959 the Mini was launched, televisions were black and white and the first section of the M1 had just been opened. 1959 was also the year that Asco first established itself as a manufacturer in the UK as Dewrance Controls, with offices in Great Dover Street in London. Today, Asco Numatics is part of the global Emerson Corporation.
Back in the 1960s, the main product line was a range of solenoid valves. Production of these was moved to Skelmersdale in 1965 and by the mid 1970s many additional products had been introduced.
These included air-operated valves, manual reset valves and pressure and temperature switches, to satisfy the ever increasing demand of new applications. A major milestone was the acquisition in 1985 of Asco by the Emerson Electric Company and this was followed in1988 by Emerson's acquisition of Joucomatic, one of Europe's leading names in pneumatic products. The two companies were brought together under the Asco Joucomatic brand. In 2005 Emerson acquired Numatics to strengthen the existing fluid automation technology and capabilities. All the Asco, Joucomatic and Numatics products have been grouped together under the Asco Numatics brand name.
Today, the Asco Numatics manufacturing facility in Skelmersdale has 170 employees and acts as the UK service centre offering a wide range of products for the Fluid Automation Market. These products include many specials developed 'in house', ATEX approved solenoid valves, bespoke pneumatic and process cabinets and four hour cylinder production, as well as other pneumatic system assemblies and a standard range of general purpose solenoid valves. Added to this is the production facility which manufactures over 1.5 million coils for both the home market and the group.
